I am Punk
In my younger years, when I could still grow a full head of hair, I could often be found rocking a mohawk. Admittedly, back then there was a bit more “look at me” to this than I am proud of. That said, even then.. I enjoyed reminding myself and others that I don’t give a shit what you think. As confidence in my self image grew and my need for external validation shrank, I began to focus more on that man in the mirror.. on being the best version of myself.. on doing what I know in my bones is right in any given situation. On my best days I am unapologetically myself, and the world is a better place because of that. I can be a rebel without a cause with a healthy distain for authority (real or perceived), because I care.. deeply. What I don’t care about is being wrong. I only aim to seek and move a little bit closer to truth. Our truth. I critique by creating without considering one bit about the way things have always been done. I know that every fire comes from a single spark. I know that the world can be changed by a single person or small group of people standing up for what they feel is right.. in fact it’s the only way the world is changed. I get strength from challenges and become more myself with every failure. The lows of life give value to the highs.. and vice versa. I will continue being my weird, quirky, unique self.. and I’m quite thankful for that.
If you don’t believe me or don’t get it, I don’t have time to try to convince you.. sorry.
I am Punk. We are Punk.
Thanks to Matt and John from Larva Labs for reminding us that it’s alright to be a Punk.. for reminding us that we were always Punk. The world still isn’t ready to see what a bunch of Punks are capable of.
